Dublin-based Kynsy (Ciara Lindsey) recently treated us to her first new single of 2022 in the form of 'New Year'.
Rising Dubliner Kynsy has dropped her second single of 2022 in the form of fun-filled dejection anthem 'Point of You'.
The track has all the characteristics of a radio-ready pop song, but explores the underbelly of trauma and the darker side of relationships. The breakthrough indie-pop artist takes inspiration from the harmonies of the Beach Boys and the Beatles and pushes them into uncomfortable corners with overly compressed drums and glitchy keys.
Kynsy says, “'Point Of You’ is me trying to work my way through the different sides of romance, happiness and disappointment. It’s about being stuck in the same cycle of falling in love with people who don’t or will never love you back and the feeling of tiredness that comes from attempting to have romantic relationships with people that never go your way.
"It’s about being love hungry for an honest and pure connection but being so fed up and dissatisfied by trying and trying that you start to ask yourself, ‘what’s the point’?”
The cinematic, Charlie Chaplin-esque video sees Kynsy pouring her heart out to herself, playing the role of therapist and client interchangeably. The instability of the subject is crystal clear as confessional, frustrated lyrics bring the story to life with vibrance and irresistible pop melodies.

On the video she adds, “We wanted to try and portray the pain and mental chaos that comes with rejection. We focused on the idea of a patient in therapy trying to unravel a failed relationship and slowly losing her mind as she analyses the relationship and herself. We wanted to try and create a visual representation of the chaos of an overactive mind by strange movement within a singular space.”
Check out the black-and-white visuals below.
Kynsy’s story began when her debut EP, Things That Don’t Exist, was released last year - months after her debut single 'Cold Blue Light' arrived. Standout track 'Happiness Isn't A Fixed State' has racked up over half a million streams since then.
In true Gen Z fashion, the prolific songwriter has built up a reputation for exploring the darkness and ennui of youth, while simultaneously holding onto a wry self-awareness in her lyrics and a playful approach to her rowdy pop sound.
Her music caught the attention of Hot Press, NME, The Irish Times, The Quietus, DIY, Clash, Jack Saunders from BBC Radio 1, Annie Mac and Gemma Bradley from BBC Introducing.
At home in Ireland, she was nominated for The Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the year 2021. Her mind has been thrumming with tunes for the last five years, and at this point she’s just itching to get them out. If 'New Year', 'Mr Nice Guy' and 'Point of You' are anything to go by, we're in for a rollercoaster high of visceral bangers.
