The 62nd edition of the festival returns later this month – with this captivating collective, who recently worked with Irish producer Jacknife Lee, among the many highlights
Les Amazones d’Afrique – a feminist supergroup made up of groundbreaking musicians from West Africa – are gearing up for a special show in Belfast's Mandela Hall on Monday, October 28, as part of the action-packed programme for Belfast International Arts Festival 2024.
Blending traditional African rhythms with a vibrant contemporary energy, the collective have built up an international reputation for their live shows – famed for their compellingly intricate harmonies, as well as passionate lyrics exploring social justice and gender equality.
Since the release of their debut album, 2017's République Amazone, Les Amazones d’Afrique have performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the world, including Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage and Later... with Jools Holland.
Their famous fan Barack Obama, meanwhile, listed their track 'La dame et ses valises' as one of his favourite songs of 2017.
Earlier this year, Les Amazones d’Afrique released their acclaimed third album Musow Danse – with the group teaming up with Irish producer Jacknife Lee for the project, and embracing a powerful new sound shaped by pop, hip-hop and trap.
The Belfast show – set to be their first ever performance in the North of Ireland – is part of the collective's Irish tour, which will also stop off at Live at St Luke's in Cork (October 26) and The Sugar Club in Dublin (October 27).
