The 2:22 : A Ghost Story star and former Love Island host will follow previously announced Giovanna Fletcher in the lead role of Rachel Watson.
Irish presenter, writer and broadcaster Laura Whitmore will star in the upcoming UK and Ireland tour of the smash-hit theatre adaptation of The Girl on the Train.
Whitmore will join the cast at Brighton’s Theatre Royal on June 3rd 2025 and will close out her run with a hometown performance at Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre at the end of August. Taking on the lead role of Rachel Watson, the former Love Island host and 2:22: A Ghost Story star will follow actress Giovanna Fletcher’s run as Watson, which concludes at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre in March.
Based on the internationally-acclaimed, best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, The Girl on the Train follows Rachel Watson, a lonely work commuter who becomes fixated on a couple who seemingly lives the life she so desperately longs for. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has disappeared, she finds herself as the prime suspect in a thrilling mystery, facing bigger revelations than she could ever have foreseen.
“I read the book when it first came out and I was obsessed by it,” Whitmore reflects on joining the tour and her love of Hawkins’ book. “I love it when you find a book and all you can think about is that story. You wake up a little bit earlier to read the book and stay up too late to finish it. I am excited to show people my portrayal of Rachel next summer.”
Over the last five years, Laura Whitmore has built an increasingly remarkable portfolio in media, film and television, literature and theatre. In 2019, she won The Ros Hubbard Award for her role in the short film Sadhbh, with other film and television credits in Queenie, Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, 4.3.2.1. and Storage 24. Her first lead in a feature film will come later this year with the release of A Mother For An Hour, as well as the interactive sci-fi thriller Hello Stranger starring Sir Derek Jacob. In 2022, Whitmore made her West end debut as Jenny in 2:22 : A Ghost Story and returned home to play Lauren in its limited Dublin run in 2024.
Whitmore has also cemented herself as a mainstay of radio and television. She is perhaps best known for hosting the Bafta-winning MTV show Love Island, the I’m A Celebrity spin-off show, Celeb Juice and her own breakfast show on ITV. She launched her documentary Laura Whitmore Investigates in 2023 and is currently working on a new documentary series. The broadcaster currently hosts the BBC podcast Murder They Wrote, alongside Iain Stirling.
