Limerick-based musician and artist in residence at the Irish World Academy, Rhiannon Giddens, has won a Grammy award for Best Folk Album at last night's ceremony.
They're Calling Me Home was written with the American singer-songwriter's partner, Francesco Turrisi.
The University of Limerick has extended its congratulations to the banjo player and artist in residence at UL's World Academy, working with students of music and dance.
They're Calling Me Home, recorded with Turrisi and Ben Rawlings at Hellfire Studios in the Dublin Mountains, nabbed the Best Folk Album award in a highly competitive category. The pair beat out the likes of Sarah Jarosz, Madison Cunningham, Tyler Childers and Mary Chapin Carpenter. 2019's There Is No Other saw Giddens collaborate with Turrisi for the first time.
As such, the pair spent the majority of the Covid-19 pandemic on these shores – during which they recorded their latest, award-winning album - which was released on Nonesuch Records last April.
