The 30-year-old actress said she was “racially profiled” recently at the Heathrow Airport in London, because she covered her hair with a headscarf.
Lohan talked about the incident on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.
The Mean Girls star stated that she was stopped and profiled at a security checkpoint after she arrived from Turkey.
“I got stopped recently and was racially profiled… She opened my passport, saw ‘Lindsay Lohan’ and immediately started apologising. But then said take off your headscarf”, she told the hosts of the show, Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan.
Lohan continued that the security check made her feel “intimidated”. She explained that even though for her it wasn’t a problem to take of her headgear, she felt scared about how a woman would feel who is not comfortable with taking of her headscarf. “I was in kind of a shock,” she added. “I was a little scared, going to America."
For the actress the headscarf was a sign of respect. Lindsay Lohan travelled to Turkey recently where she met President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to talk about the Syrian refugee crisis.
"I was doing it because I was leaving Turkey and out of respect for certain countries that I go to, when I see certain people I think I feel more comfortable acting the same as other women," she said.

"That's just a personal respect issue that I have, so I had it on.”
Lohan also referred to Hollywood icons of the past who used headscarves to conceal their identity.
"You know what's so interesting to me, when we look back at Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn - these old Hollywood actresses - they used to cover up the same way, with their big glasses and their headscarf, but you could do it because maybe you don't want to be seen as much in the airport. My red hair doesn't exactly not stand out."
The Mean Girls actress also spoke about studying the Quran, but stayed reticent about whether she actually wants to convert to the Islam.
