Black Midi also cover King Crimson and Captain Beefheart on the new EP.
English rock outfit Black Midi have shared a three track EP titled Cavalcovers, born from a host of fan-voted covers released last year. The three tracks include renditions of Taylor Swift's 'Love Story', King Crimson's '21st Century Schizoid Man' and Captain Beefheart's 'Moonlight on Vermont'.
The tracks were originally available on limited edition flexi-discs for fans that preordered their 2021 LP, Cavalcade.
Black Midi steps out of their sonic comfort zone on the famed Swift track, and furthers the appeal with a welcomed saxophone solo from Kaidi Akinnibi. The other two covers are less of a jump but are equally intriguing offerings. '21st Century Schizoid Man' marks the first time all three members of the group contributed vocals. 'Moonlight in Vermont' also sees drummer Morgan Simpson taking the lead vocal for the first time.

The EP arrives as Black Midi set out on their headlining North American tour, including an appearance at this year's Coachella Music & Arts Festival. The outfit will head back to Europe this May before finishing off their tour dates back home in the UK.
The London math rockers debut album, Schlagenheim, saw widespread critical acclaim – including a Mercury Prize nod in 2019. From the onset, the outfit's spirited improvisation and sonic influences ranging from math rock to jazz made them one to watch in the UK guitar band sphere. Their sophomore release was equally lauded, amassing over 2 million streams since its release last year.
