Wildly entertaining portrait of the world's best & most controversial drummer...
This fascinating music documentary begins with director Jay Bulger greeting legendary drummer Ginger Baker in his home. Baker acknowledges him with a blend of apathy and moderate annoyance. By the end of the documentary, Baker has smacked Bulger in the face with his cane, splitting open his nose. Everything in between proves that the documentary’s title is more than just an idle warning. Baker may be an unrivalled musical talent, an incredible innovator and a fascinating character, but he’s really not a very nice man.
Alongside these hugely entertaining interviews with the main man, there are contributions from Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, ex-Pistol John Lydon, The Police’s Stewart Copeland and fellow Cream alumni Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton. All praise Baker as the world’s greatest drummer – and a toxic force to boot. A telling moment occurs after Baker warmly enthuses about his step-children. When their mother – his much younger fourth wife – is asked if Ginger is a good step-father, she answers with an endless silence. Brilliant.
