Revisit DeCarteret's soulful performance on last night's Y&E Series – supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
Clare native DeCarteret has been marked as a serious one-to-watch on the Irish scene. Currently attending BIMM, she is rapidly blossoming into an extraordinary artist – following the release of her latest single, 'LuvSeat', earlier this year. Raw, unapologetic and complex, the track explores themes of confusion, mistakes, grief and sex – drawing influence from the likes of Mac Miller, Billie Eilish and Jorja Smith.
Bringing an eclectic mix of covers, previously released tracks and unreleased material; DeCarteret brought jamming and soulful energy to her Y&E Series set with her trademark easygoing presence. Kicking off with Billie Holiday's 'The Very Thought of You', the 20-year-old combines her jazz-infused vocals with keys from Tadhg Griffin and guitar riffs from Bricknasty in the background.
Combining her influences of neo-soul, jazz, R&B and pop; hypnotic track 'LuvSeat' pairs DeCarteret’s vocals and musical arrangement with Squid Ethics' anomalous production skills. The BIMM Dublin artist's stripped back take on her most recent single does a lot to show off her effortless vocal prowess.
Next up comes a beautiful, neo-soul rendition of H.E.R. track 'Carried Away', followed by 'Sunday 21' - her October 2020 debut appearance with Bricknasty and Hayden J Barlow. DeCarteret then offers up an unnamed, unreleased track with violin strings and vulnerable subject matter, before a recently written track 'Science'. Both songs show off a unique essence of her songwriting skills and gripping voice, and will appear on her forthcoming EP project.
The influence of Nai Palm, lead singer of Hiatus Kaiyote, and Erykah Badu, is clear to see in her livestream gigs. Expect chilled out, lo-fi beats and soulful jazz-soaked tracks from the rising star.
