The Bronx drill rapper (real name Isis Naija Gaston) has been all over our social media feeds for the past 12 months, and delivered a powerful Irish debut this afternoon.
Ice Spice may have had a strangely early slot at Longitude Festival's main stage (3pm), but she wasn't holding anything back once she got here. In what we can only assume was her Irish debut (we've trawled the internet trying to find evidence of the Bronx rapper ever stepping foot here, to no avail), the New Yorker was every inch the online sensation as she sashayed her way onstage.
The 23-year-old first rose to prominence in late 2022 after 'Munch (Feelin' U)' went viral on TikTok, after she met producer RiotUSA. Ice grew up listening to the likes of Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Wu-Tang Clan because of her father's underground rap background. Later, the talent would type out lyrics on her iPhone, rapping out loud to hip-hop instrumentals.
Her DJ got the crowd suitably warmed up before the kickstarted 'Princess Diana', her hit collaboration with queen of rap Nicki Minaj. "Keep it a stack, bitches move wock 'cause they know I got bands / They be chattin' I don't give a damn and I'm still gettin' money I know who I am / Tryna be low, he gon' hit up my 'Gram / If he smart he gon' act like a fan," the crowd chant back to her, screeching with every twerk she throws our way in the tiniest of miniskirts.
Interestingly, it was Minaj who first inspired her as a female artist when she was a freshman in high schoo. "When I saw Nicki, I was so mesmerised," Ice Spice said last year. "She's the first female rapper that I seen [sic]. And ever since then, I was kinda set on what I wanted to be."

At Marlay Park, 'Gangsta Boo' and 'Actin a Smoochie' show off the breakout star's mile-a-minute bars, as she smiles at the young crowd filming her every move on their iPhones. "A baddie gon' get what she like," she declares, leading into her collaboration with PinkPantheress, 'Boys a Liar (Pt.2)', another viral smash.
Rap's new princess shows off her unique rapping style on 'Pound Town' - covering Sexyy Red - before the intense beats of 'Bikini Bottom' send the crowd into a frenzy. She finishes off her set with the song that made her, 'Munch (Feelin' U)' and 'In Ha Mood'. She may have only had a 30 minute slot, but she made every second count.
With a Taylor Swift feature under her belt, the remainder of 2023 is hers for the taking.
