Joshua Burnside played several songs from his superb new album on last night's Lockdown Sessions' Y&E Series – supported generously by the Department of Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht.
Since experimental folk artist Joshua Burnside released his award-winning debut album EPHRATA in 2017, he has used post-punk and electronic recording methods to push the boundaries of the genre. His highly anticipated sophomore album, Into The Depths Of Hell, was released last week – so naturally, we had to have him on the Y&E Series.
Opening with 'Noa Mercier', a track about the fictional lover of a real giant from Co. Down, Burnside highlighted the stunning acoustic aspects of Into The Depths. He moved into the more upbeat 'War On Everything', before playing 'The Only Thing I Fear' and 'Whiskey Whiskey' in his stripped-back set. Closing with 'Nothing For Ye' – "a song about being skint" – Burnside certainly gave a memorable performance.
