Revisit the Dublin-based rapper's set on the Hot Press Y&E Series below – supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
Just over a month after the release of his EP Way Too Cosy, Wallfella has brought his classic hip-hop style to the spotlight as a part of the Hot Press Y&E Series.
Streaming live from the Shed, the Dublin rapper performed seven tracks, including songs from Way Too Cosy and his 2020 sophomore album, The North's Face. The set was engaging - not just because of his captivating flow, solid beats, and blue ambient lighting. Wallfella also spent the breaks in between songs interacting with the audience, which included fellow artists Odd Numbers and CharlieBeats.
Wallfella doesn't shy away from social commentary in his music, which is evident in songs like 'Givin' Up.' It was the sixth song in the set, and he described it as "a little bit political" to the audience.
"I need to calm down or someone's going to arrest me or something," the rapper joked after performing the smooth and thought-provoking track.
In addition to performing old school-style tracks 'Cosy,' 'Fresh as Fuck,' 'Victory,' 'Devaney Flow,' and 'Dayshift' from his solo projects, Wallfella also performed 'Blue,' a track made in collaboration with Odd Numbers for his latest album, The Golden Éire Tapes Vol. 1.

Thursday, August 19: ALI COMERFORD
After touring the world performing viola in classical ensembles for 14 years, Ali Comerford returned to her native Kilkenny during lockdown last year, to record her acclaimed debut album, Knots – featuring folk-based, classical-influenced original songs, entirely written, sung, played and produced by herself. Ali's journey in music has taken her to New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall and Dublin’s National Concert Hall – but after spending the last decade of her life playing other people's music, the time has come for her to step into the spotlight as a solo artist. Hot Press described Knots as "a beautifully orchestrated debut."
