Tipperary County Council has granted approval of a large tribute to the Pogues frontman to be created and erected in the town.
A Tipperary councillor has disclosed the site for an upcoming mural commemorating the late Shane MacGowan in his hometown of Nenagh. Tipperary County Council has approved the creation and installation of the tribute to the Pogues frontman in the town, allocating a budget of €15,000 for the project.
North Co.Tipperary Cllr and Mayor of Nenagh Seamie Morris has today confirmed that the proposed mural will appear “on a wall specifically chosen for murals” on Emmet Street in town.
He mentioned that the council are “proud to start with a mural” and “have other things planned in Nenagh” for the future.
“I have been proposing murals in the town for a long time now and my efforts are starting to bear fruit and I’m happy to announce that we have passed a budget of €15,000 for a mural of the late Shane MacGowan," Morris said last week, announcing the decision to erect a mural. “We have come to this agreement with the family, who will pick the image to be used.”
He also noted that the council will continue its efforts to establish a mural of the late Fr Alec Reid, another Nenagh native who worked during the peace process in the North while based in Belfast.
