Maisey and The Deep will join Gavin James, the Coronas, and the Academic at the INEC show this Friday benefitting the Irish Red Cross' aid in Ukraine.
Irish band Maisey and The Deep are slated to perform their hugely powerful single 'Daughters of Ukraine' at the INEC Arena this Friday.
In Kerry, the outfit will be joining fellow Irish artists the Coronas, Gavin James, and the Academic on stage. All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Irish Red Cross which is currently offering humanitarian aid in Ukraine following the Russian invasion.
Maisey and The Deep, now working on their debut album, paused their work to write an ode to Ukraine to raise funds for children who have been displaced as a result of the ongoing war.
Lead singer and mother of two, Maisey, was compelled to write this song as a tribute to the families whose children were victims of Russian violence. It was inspired by one of the first children to be killed - seven-year-old Alisa Hlans. Alisa was killed during a bomb strike on a Ukrainian school as her grandfather tried to protect her from the blast.
“I heard a reporter say on the news that a little girl was killed while her grandfather tried to shield her," Maisey recalls, "It just stopped me. I think as a mother first of all, it’s just heartbreaking. I heard she was only seven-years-old. I went off and sat at the piano and that line just stayed in my head."
"It reached a girl called Ana. She’s in Bucha at the moment. She contacted us and heard the song in the bunkers and they were sharing the song among themselves," she says.

In addition to Friday's performance, over 10 Gospel choirs across Ireland will be singing their own version of the song in solidarity with the Ireland for Ukraine campaign.
