Maisie Williams, the 21-year-old ‘Game of Thrones’ star, today launched a project that has been in the works for 2 years: ‘Daisie’ a social media app, the main aim of which is to connect artists (of all disciplines), encouraging creativity and collaboration.
Williams and Dom Santry, Daisie co-founder, have a history of working together. This began with the film iBoy, continued with their short film production company Daisy Chain Productions, which spurred them on to this latest endeavour. They hope that this will revolutionise creative process by placing the emphasis more on the creation of the art rather than sharing already completed artworks. As Williams told TechCrunch, “Seeing the process from core inspiration all the way through to final product, that’s what we want to take place on Daisie.”
Another key difference between Daisie and most social media sites is that Daisie will not include follower counts. The team felt like the inclusion of follower counts created an atmosphere of competition, like a popularity contest. In the same interview, Williams stated “That was one of the first things: we wanted to get rid of follower counts and make it more about chains, like a daisy.” Chains being connections made with other artists, which is really the heart of the platform. In fact, the website itself states “Daisie is a playground for creative collaboration.”
In anticipation of the launch, Williams spent much of today answering questions on Twitter using the hashtag, #AskMaisieAboutDaisie.
I’ve never felt like I was in a position to be giving people advice on how to start their careers, since my arrival into the industry was such a serendipitous stroke of luck. With @daisieapp I hope to provide the tools that other creators may need to start their journey🧡 #daisie https://t.co/4KbaocNakG

The site launched early today, August 1st. With the aim of levelling an almost comically uneven playing field, Daisie could be the shake-up that the social media industry needs.
