Mallrat's newest single is the fourth cut off of her upcoming May album, Butterfly Blue.
Mallrat has shared a new single ahead of her May debut album; a breathy, electronic track called 'Surprise Me,' featuring Azealia Banks.
Equal parts energetic and sultry, pop forward and experimental, the single signals a new era of Mallrat. Ever more confident, assured and ambitious, the Australian singer is a pop star to watch — especially now, as she teams up with one of the biggest names in the industry.
"It's so true that the music you listen to when you're little really shapes you. Or at least it hangs out in your subconscious for a very long time," said Mallrat (real name Grace Shaw) on the release.
"The first album I ever bought with my own money was Broke With Expensive Taste. Azealia Banks was truly the best to work with. It felt like she really cared, which you don't always get with feature artists; often, it can feel like they're fulfilling an obligation. Maybe I'm biased, but hers is one of the most iconic and memorable verses I've ever heard."
'Surprise Me' is the fourth peek into the singer's May release, Butterfly Blue. 2020 saw 'Rockstar,' a track that veered into the world of indie rock, followed by two songs from earlier this year, 'Your Love' and 'Teeth.'
Butterfly Blue will be Shaw's debut record, and it is set to display the wide range of timeless pop the musician has mastered. Combining Mallrat's signature breathy voice, tight production and a range of unusual samples, the LP will be an enthralling, revolutionary collection of new-age pop production.

The album was produced by Jam City (Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, Troye Sivan) and Stylaz Fuego (French Montana, Foster the People) and will be released through Nettwerk on May 13th.
Mallrat will be playing two dates at the 3Olympia Theatre on May 30th and 31st, supporting Conan Gray.
