"I didn't do it," Gary Doyle told the court this morning of the alleged assault on a Garda.
A man was arrested and appeared before court this morning after allegedly assaulting a Garda following the sold-out Garth Brooks gig at Croke Park on Saturday night.
The alleged perpetrator, Gary Doyle (aged 27), was arrested by Garda Sergeant Elaine Murtagh at the scene and taken to the Store Street Garda Station. The assaulted Garda went to A&E due to his injuries, citing a "broken nose." He will return on Thursday awaiting a decision regarding surgery.
"In the course of responding to an isolated public order incident at an event in Croke Park on Saturday, a Garda member sustained a facial injury while assisting stewards," said a Garda spokesperson.

Doyle appeared before Dublin District Court and was released on €1,000 bail pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Charged with assault causing harm to the officer, he denied the allegation. His solicitor Michael Kelleher claimed Doyle was a "designated driver" and "was sober at all times." He claimed that the CCTV footage would show that Doyle was "not the assailant."
Judge Smyth released him on bail with the condition he gave them his phone number, remained contactable at all times and notified them in case of an address change. Doyle will return to court on October 10th for DPP directions.
