Bristol native Robert del Naja has set his sights on the deceitful practices employed by large corporations to appear more ecologically sound.
Massive Attack member Rob Del Naja is set on exposing corporate greenwashing as the climate change conference COP26 unfolds.
The British musician, also known as 3D, has teamed up with green industrialist Dale Vince and artist Bill Posters to shine a light on the practice. "Greenwashing" is the use of disinformation to convey the appearance that a company is more eco-friendly than it actually is.
To fight the manipulation, Del Naja has unveiled a new website - and accompanying social media accounts - Eco-Bot.net. According to the website: "Eco-Bot.Net's system collects, visualises and flags forms of climate change disinformation that exists as content on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter."

In addition to flagging adverts, posts, and tweets that spread false impressions or manipulate facts unethically, the website has also been uploading data drops full of information regarding greenwashing practices.
The first data set “contains impressions data from greenwashing ads we have found that are created by some of the 100 corporations that are responsible for 71 percent of historic and current greenhouse gas emissions.”
The drops are set to continue, with a new one released for each day of the conference.
“The general public are very much aware of the harm caused by the disinformation that is propagated via social media platforms,” Del Naja commented. “This project aims to show that Facebook in particular is responsible for most of the climate disinfo in current circulation and will also reveal the dimensions of the greenwash industrial complex – and the profits it generates for the platforms."
Recently, Massive Attacks also called on the government to introduce a plan to cut carbon emissions at concerts.
