The award-winning film featuring the Dungarvan native is now streaming on Netflix.
Michael Inside tells the story of 18-year-old Michael McCrea (Dafhyd Flynn) who is imprisoned for three months on the basis of drug possession. Moe Dunford stars alongside Flynn, playing the role of a formidable prisoner who becomes a significant figure during Michael’s sentence.
Tackling issues of class, incarceration and justice, Michael Inside is heralded as one of Ireland’s greatest films, earning a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 100 percent, alongside a mass of well-deserved awards including Best Feature Film at the 2017 IFTAs and the Audience Award at the Cork International Film Festival.
Hot Press spoke to Dunford last April following the film’s cinema premiere.

Speaking on the experience of filming Michael Inside, the 31-year-old actor said, “I had fears about it because it’s so monstrous in its scope of the societal issues it’s addressing, and the experiences were quite far from my own. I had quite a nice childhood, I was brought up in a good place. And I read this, and there’s so much humanity in Frank’s work, which comes from his research, it’s so authentic. But it’s a tough watch, and it was a tough read.”
