Miley Cyrus covers Nine Inch Nails, performs with Joan Jett and Billy Idol

An emotional Miley Cyrus fought back tears during her star-studded pre-Super Bowl performance.

Miley Cyrus fought back tears during her star-studded Super Bowl warm-up performance, later inviting '80s rockers Billy Idol and Joan Jett to the stage.

Her showstopping TikTok Tailgate set in Tampa, Florida was in front of a crowd of 7,500 vaccinated health care workers.

Cyrus performed 'White Wedding' alongside Idol and 'I Hate Myself For Loving You' with Jett, as well as some of her own biggest hits.

She also showed off her cover skills by taking on her godmother Dolly Parton's 'Jolene,' Blondie's 'Heart of Glass,' and Nine Inch Nails' 'Head Like a Hole'.

The set list included 'Party In The USA', 'We Can’t Stop', 'Edge Of Midnight' and 'Wrecking Ball' - the final track saw Cyrus' emotions almost overflow.

The smash hit 2013 ballad was written about her now ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

“Singing that song, 'Wrecking Ball', about feeling completely broken and shattered, I know that one of the main reasons I’ve missed live music so much is seeing all of you out here relating to me, relating to my lyrics," the 28-year-old artist told the audience afterwards.

“Everyone’s suffering is different, even everyone’s threshold of pain. I like to think I’ve got a pretty high tolerance. I wear a lot of glitter and I wear a lot of armour and I also wear my heart on my sleeve, but it gets broken a lot.”

Cyrus concluded the set by performing 'The Climb' - a track which featured on 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie.

"This is my first show in about a year," Cyrus said on stage, "and I couldn't imagine a better way to do this than in Tampa, surrounded by healthcare heroes. We are so appreciative of you and all your diligence."
