The Murder Capital have debuted at No.2 on the Irish album charts. However, Ed Sheeran's No.6 Collaborations Project has pipped the band's When I Have Fears to the top of the Irish album charts, by just 74 sales.
From one perspective, the news might seem like a shame, particularly since Sheeran's album has already been top of the charts for four weeks. A No.1 album spot would have capped off a great week for Ireland's newest most exciting rockers. Their debut record received rave reviews upon release, as did their phenomenal Button Factory show last Friday.
That said, it is a remarkable achievement for the band, reaching No.2. Understandably, the band are far from disappointed. Speaking to Offical Charts Ireland, The Murder Capital said: "Feels like we’re drinking under the table, at somebody else’s wedding. For real though, love to everyone that bought the record.”
The Murder Capital do have the honour of claiming this week’s highest new entry on the Official Irish Albums Chart. Meanwhile, Post Malone saw both his albums rise through the ranks following his headline show at RDS arena. Beerbongs & Bentleys climbed nine places to Number 6, while debut album Stoney rose 11 spots to 17.
Also following their RDS headline concert on Wednesday August 21, Foo Fighters’ Greatest Hits returned to the Top 50 at No. 12. Young Thug also debuted at No. 23 with So Much Fun, his ever first appearance on the Official Irish Albums Chart.
Meanwhile on the singles chart, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello landed a ninth straight week at No. 1 with 'Senorita' – extending their run as the longest reigning No. 1 of the year so far.
