If it’s unlikely to be hailed as a masterpiece, the collective charms of Attal and his simultaneously gawky yet gorgeous wife ensure it’s never less than a playful and pleasing diversion
This frivolous and frothy French rom-com on the perils of being married to a celebrity, from actor turned turned helmsman Yvan Attal, sees Yvan playing a lowly sports writer opposite his real-life missus Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Naturally, he has to suffer the legions of sychophants, assorted autograph hunters and lecherous stares that his film-star wife attracts, but when an acquaintance teases him about Charlotte’s sex scenes, his hitherto occasional sardonic remarks about her chosen profession quickly turn to bursts of passionate paranoia.
Of course, Charlotte’s current role in a London based production with ageing sex-god and seasoned lothario Terence Stamp doesn’t exactly help matters. Indeed, it only serves to inspire enough flashes of Gallic temper, walkouts and Eurostar journeys than the entire Arsenal team probably muster in a season.

Excepting that Gainsbourg’s English contains plummy enough vowels to put the Queen or even Gwyneth Paltrow to shame, My Wife Is An Actress contains few surprises. Still, if it’s unlikely to be hailed as a masterpiece, the collective charms of Attal and his simultaneously gawky yet gorgeous wife ensure it’s never less than a playful and pleasing diversion.
