Naked Lungs share new single 'Relentless' from debut album
Naked Lungs' debut LP Doomscroll was recorded with Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Sonic Studios in Dublin.
Irish noise-rockers Naked Lungs have released the second single 'Relentless', along with a video from their forthcoming debut album, Doomscroll (out August 18).
The record was produced and recorded in Dublin by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band. It features ten tracks that explore the effect of the constant stream of negative information in our newsfeeds.
'Relentless' is a largely spoken-word track with tense synths and rhythm that builds to a release of chaotic and discordant guitars. The song conveys both frustration and disillusionment with a repetitive harmful environment that creates a tedious, toxic monotony.
The video, directed by the band's bassist Ryan Mortell, is similarly chaotic. A man frantically trying to help an injured cyclist stumbles farther and farther from the roadside wreck until he comes upon a gruesome ritual taking place deep in the woods.
Lead single 'Pressure' (initially released in May), explored how the habit of endless scrolling on news and social media can lead to a downward spiral of toxic emotions.
The cinematic video, also directed by Mortell, shows a man struggling to cope with societal expectations and turning to alcohol and drugs for relief.
"Keeping in line with the lyrics, the video explores the concept of anxiety and toxicity boiling over to manifest itself as a literal monster for us to overcome. By showing the negative means we use to overcome these feelings, we can explore the journey one might take to escape this self-fulfilling prophecy of toxicity," Mortell said in a press release at the time.
Since the release of their self-titled debut EP last year, Naked Lung have opened for Therapy? and headlined shows across the UK and Ireland.
The band will play in Roscommon at Lough Key Forest Park on June 24 as part of the Night and Day Festival. The two-day event features other Irish talents like Hothouse Flowers, Wallis Bird, and Lemonade Shoelace.
