The National Library of Ireland (NLI)’s National Photographic Archive will launch ‘Photo Detectives’, its first community-sourced exhibition of photographs and stories, at 12:30pm tomorrow, Wednesday, 13th September at the National Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. The exhibition will be officially launched by Sabina Higgins.
Following the success of the Hot Press Covers Exhibition, a new collection will move into the National Photographic Archive this month.
‘Photo Detectives’ celebrates the NLI’s rich photographic collections and highlights the work of the dedicated global Flickr community, which has contributed significantly to uncovering details about the photographs in the Library’s holdings.
The exhibition features 26 striking snapshots of Irish life dating from 1871 to 1970. Highlights include images of weddings in Waterford, family holidays in Donegal, the footing of turf in Antrim, and royal visitors to Kilkenny Castle.
‘Photo Detectives’ is free to visit, and is open seven days weekly: Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and 12noon to 5pm on Sundays. The exhibition runs in the NPA until September 2018.
