The show had suffered from mixed reviews.
Netflix have swung the axe on new series Gypsy, which will not be renewed for a second season.
The show stars Naomi Watts as a dysfunctional therapist who becomes a part of her patient's lives in various, often illicit, ways.
Fans have taken to Twitter to protest the news.

Meanwhile, aggrieved fans have set up an online petition to renew the show:

The petition highlights the show's inclusion of a romantic relationship between Watts' lead character and a female patient.
"We have become attached to Jean and Sidney and their beautiful and powerful (albeit sometimes dysfunctional) love," the petition reads. "The LGBT community has been ostracized time and time again. Netflix didn't even promote this show!"
Alluding to the decidedly mixed reviews the show has received, it continues "Netflix is ignoring the fans and listening to the critics. So it's politics. Let's fight back."
At this stage, the petition has garnered 5,041 signatures.
