By expanding its capacity, the Royal Irish Academy of Music's student numbers have increased significantly.
To mark the 175th anniversary of the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), a brand new campus was inaugurated.
To support the renovation, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has awarded the campus a €3 million grant. In addition, another €7 million was made available by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
In a speech today, Minister Martin said: “As Minister for Culture and the Arts, I am delighted that my Department was able to support this important redevelopment project. With RIAM’s and the forthcoming redevelopment of the National Concert Hall, Ireland is well on its way to becoming a world-class centre of musical excellence.”
The redevelopment of historic Westland Row includes the renovation of the historical RIAM block, providing a new structure that will house a range of learning, performance and educational spaces, as well as a range of state-of-the-art facilities.

“The new RIAM campus offers a remarkable array of facilities for our young musicians and artists. From an impressive new 300 seater recital hall to a modernised library and research facility, RIAM’s students will be equipped with the best possible resources in which to further their development,” Minister Martin said in a statement.
As the existing RIAM building was no longer fit for purpose, the renovation was planned some time ago. The new campus helped to expand the student cohort for both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
With numerous new educational opportunities, the new campus holds space for over 100 full-time and 1,000 part-time students.
