After the short teaser trailer of Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge in October, now Disney released a whole new synopsis for the upcoming movie.
Disney obviously has great ambitions for 2017: Not only that the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel and Star Wars: Episode VIII are coming to the big screens this year, but after six years of absence Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will be back at sea, fighting an army of “deadly ghost sailors.”
While the US the film is subtitled Dead Men Tell No Tales, the British movie was given the name Salazar’s Revenge – referring to the ghost pirate Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, who will be the “most formidable and malicious” foe Sparrow has ever faced. The earlier teaser already showed Salazar telling a young man to inform Jack Sparrow that the death is coming for him.
Fans will also likely be surprised by the fact that Jack is not sailing on his Black Pearl, but on the completely different, “pitifully small and shabby” ship, the Dying Gull.
Along with Depp, the film will see other familiar faces back on the screen, starring Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs. But thanks to the summary also some new characters have been revealed. To fight Captain Salazar, Jack has to form an alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), who is described as “brilliant and beautiful”, and the “headstrong young sailor” Henry (Brenton Thwaites).

This is Disney’s full synopsis:
Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack's only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, will hit the cinemas on May 26, 2017.
