Netflix has unveiled a number of forthcoming releases, and not a moment too soon. As if we needed another excuse to stay in on those inevitably chilly February nights.
Netflix Original Series:
Nightflyers will be one of the first new shows to appear on Netflix, with a premiere date set for February 1. The sci-fi series, produced at Troy Studies in Limerick, stars Ireland’s beloved Eoin Macken and follows a spaceship crew on a mission to contact alien life to help prevent an apocalypse back on Earth.
Excitement has been building for the true-crime series, Dirty John, based on the hit 2017 podcast of the same name. The series tells the story of successful business-woman Debra Newell (Connie Britton) and the sociopathic con-man 'Dirty' John Meehan (Eric Bana), who she meets on a dating app while on a quest to find true love. The show is available for streaming starting February 14, though it may not be the most romantic of choices for Valentine's Day viewing.
Russian Doll has also garnered a significant wave of anticipation. The comedy series created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland will premiere on February 1. Reminiscent of Groundhog Day, the series centres on the journey of a young woman named Nadia in New York City who dies repeatedly at a party and must find a way to escape the cycle.
Other Netflix original series to debut next month include The Umbrella Academy, Suburra (season two) and Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (Season Three: Part B).

Netflix Film:
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, High Flying Bird is a basketball drama that stars André Holland (Moonlight) as a high-powered sports agent. The film will be available to stream on February 8.
The highly anticipated mystery-thriller Velvet Buzzsaw is set to air on February 2. Featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalia Dyer, the film’s premise follows a supernatural force that seeks revenge in the contemporary art world of Los Angeles.
Other Netflix Film titles to come out in February include The Breaker Upperers and Isn’t It Romantic.
Netflix Original Documentary:
ReMastered: The Two Killings of Sam Cooke examines the mysterious shooting of the widely-loved soul singer and airs February 8. Following that on February 15 is Larry Charles’ Dangerous World of Comedy, a four-part series that follows the comedy writer on a trip to find humour in the world’s most unexpected places. Finally, Chef’s Table (Volume Six) will premiere on February 22. The award-winning show is comprised of multiple independent episodes, each following a world-renowned chef and creating an intimate profile of their lives and careers.
