Lomax in Éirinn,produced by Aisling Productions,will have it's television premier on Sunday 16th September at 9:30pm on TG4.
The documentary follows Pól Brennan (Clannad), as he traces Texan Alan Lomax's journey across Ireland, culminating in the first LP of Irish traditional music in 1955.
Lomax had dreamed of preserving the music of the world by capturing it on LP's. At the time few people appreciated Irish Traditional music, but twenty years after the recording bands like Planxty and Clannad would emerge as forerunners of the Irish trad revival, having been inspired by the LP.
Presenter Pól Brennan talks about why he got involved in the documentary:
"Lomax in Éirinn gave me a chance to explore the roots and consequences of Lomax’s journey to Ireland and the undeniable influence it had on Irish music."

The documentary will also feature exclusive performances from the likes of Steve Earle, Slow Moving Clouds, The Tulla Ceilí Band and more. It also features contributions by John Spillane, Brian Mullen, amongst other key figures in the Irish Folk scene.
Lomax in Éirinn was directed by Declan McGrath, and is a must see for all lovers of traditional music.
