For Lisa Peters, music has been a constant since a young age.

The Irish singer-songwriter, who releases music under the moniker Daytona Rose, first got her start in music as a child, singing songs in primary school before eventually learning piano. As a classically-trained pianist at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, she later attended Rock College in Ballyfermot in Dublin, which allowed her to explore pop and rock genres. There she learned to write songs and hone her performance craft.

Unsurprisingly, she was then chosen to do an exchange programme in The Pop Academy, Hammelburg, Germany.

"I literally was eating and breathing music," she joked recently over a Zoom call with Hot Press. "It was my passion."

Eventually, her adoration for music led her to places all over the globe. Daytona Rose moved to New York City to pursue her music career, which later led her to performing in Miami, Los Angeles, London and even Dubai.

"I started in Ireland obviously...but I just felt at the time that I needed to spread my wings and see what else was out there," she explained. "It was just very new and exciting, and I think that's what I needed for the next level, for the next step of where I felt like I was going."

"You learn so much when you travel," she added. "I guess it's just added to me as a person, broadening my horizons. Traveling has inspired me further to keep going. It's like adding more fuel to my fire, in a way."

Despite all her travels, she admitted that she can't help but feel homesick from time to time. The singer started to get choked up thinking about her love for her city.

"Dublin is my heart and soul," she said. "I'm going to get emotional again talking about it, but it is. It's a big part of who I am, so for sure, without a doubt, I'll be back."

Peters released her first single 'Done Up' in 2019 alongside 'Joyride', and has since shared numerous tracks, including her latest release, 'Supalove,' which was inspired by experiences during the pandemic.

"The song is all about living your life and enjoying every day, and the greater, bigger message in it is obviously super love is the highest power there is," she said. "It's just demonstrating that no matter what, even if we can never see another person again, it's all about that superpower: love will override everything."

In addition to the single, a music video for the track was shared, which Daytona Rose filmed during the pandemic.

"My brother's best friend died around the time when I was filming it too," she said, pausing to regain control of her emotions. "It kind of gave me the push to actually film it because I was in between two minds to even film the video. It just made me realise even more that tomorrow isn't guaranteed for anybody."

In the spirit of making the most of our lives, Peters is continuing to share her inspirational music. Recently, she put on a multimedia variety show in New York funded by the New York City Arts Council. She is also set to perform at Art Basel in Miami in early December.

Though a return to Dublin may not be soon, the Irish singer-songwriter did reveal that her future plans include an EP. A collection of songs is definitely in the works, but she still anticipates releasing singles because she does "enjoy the whole process of creating a video with it" and having the "artistic expression of a whole piece to showcase."

For now, however, she's just "keeping things moving forward, one step at a time."
