The acclaimed production company Element Pictures, responsible for The Lobster and Room have been given the green light to go ahead on a film based on the novel.
Originally a Facebook group created in 2008, the 'Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling' (OMGWACA) has over 48,000 followers and a cult following online. If you are unfamiliar with the Irish social media phenomenon, the concept is based around the loveable country girl called Aisling, who moves up to Portobello in The Big Smoke and adapts to city living in a whimsical and comedic series of events.
The antics of Aisling were then written into a novel by creators of the Facebook group Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen in 2017, which quickly rose to the top of the adult fiction list and became a bestseller.
So excited this news is out! We are thrilled to be working with the amazing @ElementPictures to bring Aisling to THE BIG SCREEN! https://t.co/gDLo9bZ1IB

"We’ve known this character for ten years so to be given the opportunity to take her from the pages of our beloved book and transform her into a walking, talking, caring (and judging, let’s be honest) girl in front of a camera is beyond our wildest dreams. We can’t wait to start!”.
Even Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is a fan of Aisling it seems and is eagerly awaiting the casting choice.
Read this book over the summer. Delighted to see it being made into a film. Well done to authors @emermclysaght and @SarahJayBee. But who will play Aisling??
