“I’m just now hearing about what happened wtf,” hip-hop sensation GloRilla posted to her Twitter account early this morning, “praying everybody is ok.”
A 33-year-old woman has died and nine others have been injured in a crowd crush at a GloRilla and Finesse2tymes concert this weekend at the Main Street Armory, New York.
Nicholas Adams, a lieutenant with the Rochester Police Department, told CNN that officers received a call about gunshots at the venue around 11pm, around the time the show was ending. While the police found no evidence of shooting, there was evidence of a major crowd surge.
Three women were found in critical condition, with one dying under care– her name has not yet been released to the public. Seven more were taken to hospitals for non life threatening injuries.
In a news briefing today, Police Chief David M. Smith assured viewers that the police were investigating what caused the fatal surge, including “possibly crowd size, shots fired, pepper spray and other contributing factors.”
“What began last night as a night of live music and fun for the performer GloRilla ended in tragedy with one person dead and two more fighting for their lives,” said Smith.

Since the deaths of ten people at Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival in 2021, crowd crush incidents have become a much higher point of concern for concert safety.
Mayor of Rochester, Malik Evans, promises a thorough investigation into what caused the surge and allowed the casualties to occur. “We are going to hold people accountable for what happened last night, period,” Evans said in the press conference.
The Rochester Police Department just posted a statement to their Twitter account, regarding their investigation into the tragedy. They wrote:
"Our investigators are interviewing surviving victims, concertgoers, security, and everyone else that has potential information as to what led to this tragedy. We are working with the Fire Marshal's Office to help determine the number of concert goers related to capacity of the venue. In addition, we are working with various other licensing agencies such as Code Enforcement, The New York State Liquor Authority, and others, to verify compliance with regulatory safety measures."
GloRilla tweeted "I'm just now hearing about what happened...praying everybody is ok" after the gig had ended.
