It’s the first time the Academy has released a shortlist before the nominations announcement
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed 15 tracks that are still in contention for Best Original Song. Last year’s winners came from Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez for their song ‘Remember Me’ from the Pixar film Coco.
Among the included tracks is heavy favourite ‘Shallow’ by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘All the Stars’ from Black Panther, and ‘Revelation’ by Troye Sivan from the film Boy Erased.
The Academy appears to be fond of the Mary Poppins remake which landed in the Best Song shortlist not once, but twice.
The nominations for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday January 22. The official ceremony will be held on Sunday February 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
