Both Irish actors are nominated in the Best Actor category for their work on the West End.
The nominees for the 2023 Evening Standard Theatre Awards have been announced, and Irish actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott have both been included in the best actor category.
Mescal, known for his celebrated performances in the Sally Rooney series Normal People and 2022's Aftersun, was nominated for his lead performance in the West End production of A Streetcar Named Desire. Two of his Streetcar co-stars, Anjana Vasan and Patsy Ferran, are also nominated alongside him for Best Actress.
Scott, best known for his role as the Preist in the show Fleabag, was nominated for his leading role in VANYA, an adaptation of Uncle Vanya in which Scott plays all of the characters. He previously won the award in 2019, for his performance in Noel Coward's gender-switched adaptation of Present Laughter.
Held annually, the Evening Standard Theatre Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in London Theatre and is organised by the Evening Standard newspaper. This year's ceremony will be held on 19th November.
