Last year’s performance has been described as “a show stealer.”
Last year at Electric Picnic, more than 14,000 people packed themselves into the Rankin's Wood tent to witness 2FM Live The Story of Hip Hop featuring The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, rappers Mango and Jafaris, DJ Mo K and singers Jess Kav and Erica Cody.
Music from the world of hip hop was blasted out of the tent including tunes from Dr Dre, Missy Elliott, Tupac, Nelly, Beyoncé and Eve. Well, this year it's back - bigger and better- with the addition of nearly 30 minutes of new music to the show.
The story of hip hop cannot be told without paying homage to the UK and the evolution of grime music. Tracks from Stormzy, Skepta, Kano and Meridian Dan all feature in the exciting new performance. The 2FM Live journey is then continued with even more contemporary classics from the likes of Cardi B, Drake, Electric Picnic headliner Kendick Lamar and more. A visual story accompanies the entire show on several giant screens as the acts chart the story of hip hop from the late 70s to now.
The Story of Hip Hop brings two unlikely worlds together for one amazing show. Fusing the music of the streets with the world of classical orchestration, The Story of Hip Hop will take you on a journey through hip hop in eras - from its first original commercial hit in 1980 right up to the contemporary hits of 2018. Every track in this show plays a unique and significant part in the history of the genre’s development. From the worldwide number 1’s to the underground pioneers that paved the way.
This performance is simply not to be missed on Friday, 31st August, in the Rankin’s Wood tent from 8.30pm.
