In conjunction with the announcement, Pixies released an album trailer that features exclusive interviews with the band members.
Boston alt-rock band Pixies have announced their eighth studio album, Doggerel, and shared the first single from the project, 'There's A Moon On.' The LP will be released via BMG on September 30.
The song harnesses the classic Pixies sound, funneling the structured beats of early '90s punk tinged rock through a modern filter. Rife with live drums, raw guitar licks and raspy vocals, the song follows the group's patented loud-quiet-loud song set-up — demonstrating their commitment to their sound, while still showing off a maturity that comes with over 30 years of experience in the game.
In addition to the announcement, the band released a trailer for the project, featuring interviews with band members from the studio — a snow drenched, modern-meets-historical building called Guildfoil Sound, located in the southern corner of Vermont.
“This time around we have grown,” lead guitarist Joey Santiago can be heard explaining. "We no longer have under two-minute songs. We have little breaks, more conventional arrangements but still our twists in there."

"We’re trying to do things that are very big and bold and orchestrated. The punky stuff, I really like playing it but you just cannot artificially create that shit," agreed vocalist and songwriter Black Francis. "There’s another way to do this, there’s other things we can do with this extra special energy that we’re encountering."
Forming in Boston in 1986, Pixies became one of the most iconic bands of the early alt-rock movement. Albums Surfer Rosa and Doolittle put the group on the map, breaking into top 100 charts in the US and UK. After breaking up in 1993, the band reunited in 2004, since recording three albums: Indie City (2004), Head Carrier (2016) and 2019's Beneath the Eyrie.
Doggerel is out on September 30. Check out the album trailer below:
