A lesbian storyline in the new Power Rangers movie renders the children's classic an 18+ film in Russia due to “gay propaganda”
The yellow Power Ranger called Trini is a major leap forward in the film industry. Young fans exploring their sexualities will find comfort in a character which breaks the traditional heteronormative Hollywood mould; young fans besides those in Russia.
The Russian Power Rangers film distributor WDSSPR declared Friday that the flick would bear an 18+ age restriction due to push back from legislators against a potentially fascist message.
The movie is one of the first of its kind to have non-traditional representations of sexuality in a children's film. Contemporary filmmakers have yet to normalize relationships which run the gamut of sexual and racial identities.
Power Rangers is rated 12A in Ireland due to moderate violence and language and PG13 in America. As more countries embrace the rainbow flag, what will it take to break the censorship barrier of those which haven't?
David Yost, who acted as the original Blue Ranger, is excited about the direction the series is going. He stepped down years ago as the Blue Ranger after facing sexual harassment.
Societal values develop in childhood and stem partially from the media children consume. Will the Rangers start a rainbow wave in film? Twitter suggests so.

Here's the supposedly "pivotal" scene in Power Rangers that's being hailed as breaking down LGBT barriers in superhero films. That's... it. pic.twitter.com/fyRH6qxG5d
