The lauded Powers Golden Hours series is making its eagerly anticipated return to Dublin this month – with a selection of trad legends and innovative acts gearing up for an unforgettable session on the iconic Whelan's stage...
Taking us from bustling Dublin pubs, to legendary spots in the wilds of West Kerry, Powers Golden Hours has proved over the past 12 months that the bold, innovative energy at the heart of traditional Irish music is alive and well right across the country – transcending generations, influences, scenes, backgrounds and more. Now, the unique performance series is set to return to Dublin, with Iarla Ó Lionáird, The Bonny Men and more gearing up for a legendary night at Whelan’s on Tuesday, April 30.
Taking the spirit of an intimate session, and transporting it to one of the country’s most iconic stages, this upcoming edition of Powers Golden Hours will once again salute the revolution currently underway in Irish music – in which ancient sounds are simultaneously respected and remoulded, to carve out captivating new paths and push the boundaries of tradition.
Acclaimed fiddler player, sean nós singer and podcaster Doireann Ní Ghlacáin will be our host for the evening – guiding us through an unforgettable journey of song, storytelling and more.
Renowned sean nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird – who is also a member of the award-winning supergroup The Gloaming – will share the stage with The Bonny Men, one of the most buzzed-about acts in the Irish folk scene. Also performing on the night is the acclaimed fiddle player Ciara Ní Bhriain.
The Golden Hours series forms part of Powers’ Old But Gold campaign, which proudly champions the iconic Irish whiskey’s long and rich history – and encourages us to redefine what it means to be ‘old’ in today’s world. By exploring the overlap between traditional music and contemporary ideas, the series celebrates the origins of Irish music, while also presenting an innovative and immersive musical experience you'll never forget.
The series has already proved a major hit among trad fans and players, as well as those embracing the tradition for the very first time – with successful events in Dublin and Belfast, as well as West Kerry, as part of the Other Voices ‘23 line-up.
Tickets for Powers Golden Hours at Whelan’s (which is strictly over 18s) are no longer available, but you can join the waitlist here.
