Dublin DJ and producer Chósta is back with a fresh cut from his forthcoming debut album, this time pairing up with fellow electronic artist Fears (Constance Keane) on 'Honesty'.

The video, directed by Adam Kelly and Eoin Lennon, is intended to be an examination of human behaviour following a significant loss. It follows Alex, a 30-something-year-old call centre worker, who is all too familiar with emotional pain. The clip focuses on her journey towards laying those emotions to rest following the news of her estranged father’s death.

The 'Honesty' video stars Michelle Lucy and was produced by Siobhan Coakley, and sees the protagonist struggling to cope with missing the funeral of her parent. The eerie mantra "No one made you say it but you" is repeated with Fears' ethereal vocals, her constant presence elevating the track to new heights.

As the clip continues, we see Alex eventually collect her late father's ashes and spread them off a rugged coastline of Ireland before sitting in her car and tuning the radio again. Flicking between despair and numbness, the portrayal of grief is also conveyed melodically within Chósta's choice of electronic flourishes.

The Donabate producer previously teamed up with Jape on 'That Object Spoke To Me' late last year, as well as performing at the National Concert Hall's Haunted Dancehall event. Meanwhile, Fears released her debut album Oiche in 2021 to critical acclaim, and her band M(h)aol will share their debut LP Attachment Styles on February 3rd via TULLE.

Chósta's debut album Twilight Transmission will be self-released on his Midnight Tapes label on February 17th, 2023.

The project is a concept record about a fictional network of interconnected radio stations. Chósta’s discovery of NTS+DDR shows later presented the eclecticism he so craved.

"I regularly discovered music, both new and old, that blew my mind, and radio once again acted as a companion in lonely times. Twilight Transmission is a tribute to those days when commercial radio here had variety and space that catered to different tastes."

"The album was written and recorded over much of the past 18 months beginning in bleak lockdown," the talented producer says. "During that period of isolation and social depravity, I got back into listening to radio for the first time in years. I found much of what I heard here in Ireland was painfully bland and filled with the same handful of major label artists shoved down my throat. This Sheeran-fication was a far cry from my childhood growing up with late night shows such as Donal Dineen’s Small Hours to educate and expand musical taste."

Sonically, the album is influenced by trip-hop era Portishead, Boards of Canada, post-dubstep, jazzy 1990s hip-hop production, William Basinski, Tim Hecker’s ‘Radio Amor’ and Madvillian.

Chósta has also announced an album launch gig in the Workman’s Cellar on Friday, February 17th, in conjunction with Foggy Notions.
