The Black Captain are a trio from Balrothery in North Dublin who reformed in 2019 after releasing their debut EP four years earlier.
Rising outfit The Black Captain are back with a new single, 'One Last Summer', alongside an accompanying video - premiered below by Hot Press.
The band released their debut single 'Calling To You' in 2013, earning the attention of various tastemakers and national radio stations. The Dublin-based group went on to release their self-titled debut EP two years later before taking a hiatus until 2019.
The Black Captain, luckily for us, have been working on their debut album in Crookedwood Studios, Slane with producer Dave Arkins
The band are made up of close friends Paul Rock, Alan Lynch and Dermot Hagan. The charismatic trio have been creating music together for as long as they can remember, choosing their name to reminisce on navigating life’s challenges through the darkness and back into the light
With a sound rooted in folk, indie and Americana - taking in elements of Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul Simon with a touch of '90s guitar pop - think soaring melodies and singalong choruses for festival season.
According to the band, 'One Last Summer' is “an energetic, soulful, and melodic longing for a time when the light seemed to burn forever, and we were living the best days of our lives”.

Written against a backdrop of grief, isolation, and a longing for simpler days that had passed; the simple yet effective cut is infectiously catchy, gripping you from the first listen.
The stunning video could easily act as an advertisement for Fáilte Ireland, with a blonde woman exploring the gorgeously green countryside of Ireland as she reflects on summers gone by. Flicking through different periods of time, rolling hills and clips of flowers are interspersed with cinematic warmth.
For fans of Sam Fender, Radiohead, The Verve , Oasis and The Killers; the track was written by Paul Rock (vocalist and guitarist). The Black Captain arranged the single before David Arkins recorded and produced it in Meath. 'One Last Summer 'was Mastered by SoundPorter in Nashville, Tennessee.
