Shobsy soars into spring with the release of 'Vanity', his debut single as a solo artist.
Shobsy has unveiled the charismatic video for his debut solo single 'Vanity', featuring an oil painting of himself in historical garb.
His powerhouse vocals echo the charisma of Freddie Mercury and George Michael, as Hot Press noted before. Embodying the vain character within the track, 'Vanity' is accompanied by a video that drills the point home.
The musician built up a reputation as the former frontman and lead songwriter with State Lights. The quartet soaked in success with their stadium-sized anthems, including ample appearances at both Electric Picnic and The Late Late Show. In equal measure, State Lights dominated airwaves with international airplay on KROQ in the States and Radio X in the UK.
Joe O'Regan from the band still works alongside Shobsy, who is currently on tour with Soda Blonde. His own, sold out headline show at Whelans is due to take place tonight, celebrating the single release.
'Vanity' does what it says on the tin, focusing on narcissism during a time where the internet has taken control. The track hits the ground running, with a riveting falsetto and pulsing synth that mimics the modern-day sonics of The Weeknd and the nostalgic adrenaline rush of '80s icons A-ha and Bronski Beat.

“Lyrically the song deals head-on with the concept of vanity and self-obsession in an age where social media becomes an increasingly integral part of our lives,” Shobsy says.
Coalescing contemporary soundscapes with classic pop melodies of decades gone by, Shobsy has been admired for both his songwriting talents together with his compelling vocals, and is rapidly becoming a leading artist to watch in Ireland.
Having spent the last 12 months in hiatus sharpening his sound and stagecraft, now is the time for Shobsy to launch an artistic reinvention, propelling himself in a fresh direction and en-route to becoming a well-rounded, genre-defying artist.
Shobsy sold out his first solo show at Dublin’s Workman’s Club in a matter of days last autumn, and is currently touring as support guest with RTE Choice Music Prize nominees Soda Blonde.
This Dubliner’s natural vocal ability, showmanship and grounded sense of self has already gained him a legion of fans amongst his industry peers and high-profile media platforms.
