When Hot Press heard Gorgeous Wrecks' debut single from their forthcoming album Gentle Art Of Persuasion, our interest was certainly piqued. "It promises much," wrote Stuart Clark in the 'A&R Department. "Armed with “one guitar, a drum-kit, a few drum machines and a couple of synths”, [the] Galway/Dublin duo make a noise that’s halfway between The Blue Nile and New Order."

As such, we are delighted to premiere the video for the stunning track. In 2019, the two independent Irish artists – searching for fresh musical outlets and hoping to explore new sonic ideas – came across each other while nursing a pair of hangovers at an Antoni Gaudí walking tour in Barcelona.

Combining their collective vision for a musical project that married electronic atmospherics, a selection of vintage drum machines, a guitar and one very unique voice, they were determined to put the songs (and not the artist) at the forefront, letting the music speak for itself. Gorgeous Wrecks decamped to a studio in North Dublin with renowned Irish producer Ger McDonnell, where, inspired by the likes of The Blue Nile, The Notwist, Portishead, PJ Harvey, Metronomy, TV on the Radio and New Order, they wrote and recorded their debut album Gentle Art of Persuasion.

A mixture of rock, electronica and synth pop, the album was mixed in Abbey Road by Frank Arkwright and will be released early this year.

In the Dublin-centric video, the dynamic duo retain their anonymity by wearing tangerines as they drive past familiar spots like Whelan's.
