Indie rock duo Plastic Cowboys is composed of Ciaran McGann and Darren McCarthy, who formed the band in early 2019.
Westmeath-born, Dublin-based band Plastic Cowboys have unveiled their new single in the form of 'Time is Feeling Inadequate' - premiered below by Hot Press.
The track lyrically captures the anxiety of time passing us by while we are "living to work and working to death".
The indie-rock duo is composed of Ciaran McGann and Darren McCarthy, with sound being described as an electric combination of '70s punk rock, art punk, and grunge fused with contemporary production. The pair's impressive previous releases, 'Not as Cool' and debut EP Splinter, have garnered 55,000 Spotify streams and landed on several high-profile Spotify editorial playlists.
Following the release of Splinter earlier this year, Plastic Cowboys have been writing and recording a slew of new music, with 'Clichéd Ciggy Smoker', 'Storehouse' and 'Time is Feeling Inadequate' emerging as the result. Most of the work was done in their home studio, which they set up during the Covid lockdowns to record all guitar and bass before restrictions were eased - allowing them to record the drums at Daylight Studios.
Plastic Cowboys predominantly work at Wavefarm Productions with Kevin Brennan, who has helped them to hone their ever-evolving sound.

'Time is Feeling Inadequate' addresses the nihilism facing most generations in late-stage capitalism, where profit triumphs over people and work-life balance fails to exist for most. Living paycheck to paycheck has become the norm for many. A catchy drum beat and electric guitar riff maintain the pace of the song matched with Ciaran's soaring vocals.
"This song is about the frustration I've been feeling towards an imbalance found in my life this past year and a half. If I were to have kept a journal, to save myself the time and effort I could have copied and pasted each day onto the next," Ciaran explains of the track's lyrics.
"Time is feeling inadequate
In a place that denies it exists
And we are all just doing our part
Trapped in a race that never can start"
The passing of time in such an anxiety-inducing time gives the impression that your youth is passing without actually being lived and enjoyed.
"Nine to five in the week and zero in the end
Living to work and working to death
Pent up stress on a weekend do
Time is coming and it’s coming for you."
The band are getting ready to return to the live music scene, with a fresh EP in the works. The project will be released in early 2022.
