Northern Irish outfit Smallmint will drop their debut album 'where we all end up in the end' this Friday, October 15th.
Northern Ireland-based outfit smallmint have shared a live performance video of 'Synonym' and 'Pseudonym', taken from their forthcoming debut album where we all end up in the end.
To mark this Friday's unveiling, smallmint are slated to host a live-streamed album launch on 13 October and will also release the final track from the album 'Pseudonym' on Thursday.
All physical copies and merchandise are now available to pre-order, with all orders set to include a ticket to the album launch and a digital download of the album.
where we all end up in the end began life in 2017, when live tracking commenced at Smalltown America Studios in Derry. The emerging group worked closely together with producer Caolán Austin to achieve the sound on the record, releasing four singles to date from the project. The band's 2020 debut single 'New Year' was followed by 'Liv' and 'No Shelter'.
Frontman Andrew Cameron-Braithwaite wears his emotional intricacies on his sleeve through his vocal delivery and upfront lyricism, all set to a musical backdrop of crunchy electric guitars and pounding drums. The end result is a confident statement of intent — a testament to the band’s hard work, musicianship and also their own high standards.

“We wanted the album to feel natural and to actually sound like a band playing live in a room, which is exactly how it was recorded," Andrew tells Hot Press. "It was important for us to keep that space and energy in the recordings - no need for overproduction or too many overdubs, we wanted to let the arrangement of the music by the band, and the lyrics speak for themselves.”
Hailing from various parts of Northern Ireland, the collective of musicians have been shaped by their years of service to the music scenes of Belfast, Glasgow and beyond. Fronted by Cameron-Braithwaite, they confidently wander the border between indie-rock and Americana — sounding like a long overdue meeting of the minds of Pinegrove, Frightened Rabbit and Julien Baker.
Speaking ahead of this week's livestream show, Andrew reflects on the live performances of 'Synonym' and upcoming new single 'Pseudonym'.
"The songs were recorded live in May of this year at Forfey in Belfast with a superb team. It was a truly rewarding experience getting the band back in the room to play the songs from the album, which we'd been working on for years but never got the chance to gig."
"We thought it would be a cool way to premiere the album, to release the live session two days before the record comes out. We want to give people the chance to hear the songs played live, so they can see us perform and hopefully connect with the songs on another level."
