This unique take on a literary Q&A will also feature singers Brian Kennedy and Saibh Skelly, and will take place in the festival village in Merrion Square Park, on Friday 26 May, kicking off at 8pm.
Paul Charles, author of the brand new memoir, Adventures In Wonderland, has been confirmed as a guest at the International Literature Festival Dublin. He will be joined for what promises to be a unique occasion, by singers Brian Kennedy and Saibh Skelly and by the editor of Hot Press magazine, Niall Stokes.
However, this will be no ordinary literary festival appearance. Because “By Order of The Relevant Authorities”, the author is set to stand trial, before The People's Court, on charges arising from his work as an agent, manager, promoter, songwriter and rock ’n’ roll agitator, since he first became a music “addict" when he heard The Beatles ‘Please Please Me’ on the radio in his family kitchen in the 1960s.
The trial will take place in Merrion Square Park – where the International Literature Festival Dublin is happening this year – on Friday May 26 at 8pm.

Paul Charles was born and reared in Magherafelt, in Co. Derry and began his career in “music” managing a band called Blues By Five.
Mr. Charles – the author, as we have noted, of the book titled Adventures In Wonderland – has been charged with the pernicious crime of spreading the notorious, so-called Gospel of Rock ’n’ Roll Music in Ireland and across the world, thereby inducing unsuspecting, innocent citizens to participate in loud singing, lewd dancing and innumerable other acts of depraved decadence.
Packed with jaw-dropping stories, Adventures In Wonderland is one of the most complete insights into the world – and the business – of music that you will ever encounter. It is a must-read for every music fan, for students of how the world of rock ’n’ roll works – and, of course, for The Relevant Authorities.
"As the defendant has worked with some of the biggest names in rock music,” the Prosecutor Mr. Niall Stokes explained today, “and has made a full confession of all of his activities in pursuit of his Musical Addiction, in his disreputable life story, Adventures In Wonderland, this is viewed as a test case by The Relevant Authorities. It is our intention to seek a verdict of guilty, and if we are successful, this may be just the first case among many. Others who are intent on spreading the Gospel of Rock ’n’ Roll have been warned.”
The Prosecutor will make the case before the judge for the evening, Mr. Brian Kennedy.
Doorstepped by reporters yesterday, Mr. Paul Charles refused to comment, but as he closed the door he could be heard singing – slightly out of tune, according to one well-known "eminent" rock critic – “I… am an innocent man.”
The trial will take place at the International Literature Festival Dublin, on Friday May 26, at 8pm, before the people’s court.
