The singer already faced 10 counts of various sexual assault charges.
R. Kelly has reportedly been charged with 11 more counts of sexual assault.
The Chicago Sun Times reported that court records show the charges relate to sexual assault and abuse of a minor aged between 13 and 16. If proven guilty he faces a heavier sentence than the one he faces currently.
Four of these charges are reportedly counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, which carry a maximum of 30 years in prison.
Kelly's lawyer, Steve Greenberg stated that these charges are not related to a new case. He took to Twitter to defend his client.
#RKelly was NOT charged with a new case. He was recharged in an existing case, same alleged victim and time (a decade ago) It changes nothing

#RKelly These are the same conduct, just charged differently, same alleged victim, same time frame, same facts. We expect the same results

Earlier this year the Grammy-award winning artist was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, he has pleaded not guilty and is currently released on bail.
In January 2019, a documentary series, Surviving R. Kelly, showed a number of Kelly's alleged victims coming forward and talking about the abuse they endured.
Sexual assault allegations have plagued Kelly throughout his career, he has denied all claims.
