Leading music industry figures have teamed up to declare a climate emergency.
A group of influential artists and music industry figures have come together to form Music Declares Emergency. Radiohead, Foals, Idles and Imelda May are among the many artists who have declared a climate and ecological emergency, and have called on governments to take immediate action. A number of prominent record labels, festivals, promoters, managers and venues are also included in the organisation.
In a statement shared on their website, Music Declares Emergency express their belief in "the power of music to promote the cultural change needed to create a better future."
They call on the government to "act now to reverse biodiversity loss and reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by no later than 2030." The group also claim to "acknowledge the environmental impact of music industry practices and commit to taking urgent action."
Those who have banded together under Music Declares Emergency pledge to "speak up and out about the climate and ecological emergency"; to "jointly support one another, sharing expertise as a collective industry and community"; and to "work towards making out businesses ecologically sustainable and regenerative".

Back in May, Ireland and the UK became the first two countries in the world to declare a climate and biodiversity emergency. Activists are calling on similar action to be taken by governments around the world.
