Philbin Bowman brings his latest show, The Revolution Will Be Televised, Retweeted and Available on 4OD, to Dublin’s Smock Alley Theatre on September 20, 21 and 22, as part of the ABSOLUT Fringe festival.

The journalist and comedic satirist – who you might remember from such gems as Jesus: The Guantanamo Years and Pope Benedict: Bond Villain – will cast the most cynical of eyes over Irish political and social life in this one-man play. As he says himself; ‘What do we want? GLOBAL JUSTICE! When do we want it? IN 140 CHARACTERS!’
#Can’tWait. Also in Dublin this fortnight, those plastic-bagged scamps Rubberbandits make their way up from Limerick for a one-off show in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar on September 22. The pair shot to fame with that equine ode, ‘Horse Outside’, before releasing their debut album Serious About Men last year. Hot Press will always have a place in its heart for the tender ‘Song For Willie O’Dea’…
New Yorker Des Bishop is also on the road this issue, armed as ever with his trusty drum kit. Our Hoot Press interviewee (see facing page) brings Des Bishop Likes To Bang to Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo (September 29) and Armagh’s Market Place (October 4).
Out wesht next, where Bray man Dara O Briain is set to perform on September 21. The Panel presenter will take to the Royal Theatre’s stage in Castlebar, for one night only. Down south meanwhile, Mario Rosenstock is Cork Opera House-bound on September 21 and 22 with Gift Grub Live 2. Corkman Keith Farnan is in Dublin’s Laughter Lounge for three shows (September 27, 28, 29), while Ted & Co: The Dinner Show runs in Langton’s, Kilkenny (20), Cork’s Maritime Hotel (22, 25, 26) and the Courtyard Hotel, Kildare (October 4). Our recent Chatroom interviewee Joe Rooney meanwhile does his thang in McCarthy’s, Dingle (September 20), Cáca Milis Cabaret, Wexford Arts Centre (21), City Limits, Cork (22), IADt, Dún Laoghire (24) Boomers, Clondalkin (27) and the Dublin Comedy Improv, International Bar (October 1).
