Record Store Day, a global celebration of the culture of the record store, has been postponed from its usual April date to June 20, 2020.

Involving thousands of people and small businesses, Record Store Day typically sees artists releasing unique songs and vinyls, or alternate versions of previously released material. U2, The Murder Capital, and January 2020 cover star David Keenan were all set to release something special for Record Store Day.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Record Store Day representatives said: "we’ve decided that, this year, our best possible move is to change the date of Record Store Day to Saturday, June 20.

"We think that this takes into consideration the recommendations of the many doctors and scientists lending their expertise to help in the Coronavirus pandemic, as well as the many other individuals at the World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other agencies tasked with the difficult job of getting us through this crisis.

"RSD acknowledges the need to be good citizens of both the local and worldwide communities while still giving our participating stores around the world the best chance to have a profitable, successful Record Store Day."
