The fifth season of the political drama will air on Netflix in May this year.
A new trailer for House of Cards has been released on the day of Trumps inauguration, revealing the release date of the drama series’ fifth season. While the new seasons typically air in February, this year’s season will arrive on the streaming service three months later and will kick off on May 30, 2017.
The Netflix drama, created by Beau Willimon, first aired in 2013 and is on ever since. The show starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright deals with the American political system and the themes of ruthless pragmatism, manipulation and power. It has been announced recently that season 5 will be the first season without creator Willimon. Instead producers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese will take his place.
The teaser, which coincided with Trump’s real-life inauguration, was posted on the official House of Cards Twitter page with the caption ‘We make the terror.’

Spacey also stated in an interview last year that turning on the news makes him think the political thriller “doesn’t go far enough” compared to the real American elections.
The dark clip sees the American flag flown upside down along with children’s voices pleading allegiance to the flag.
