'Hold The Girl' marks the third release from Sawayama's sophomore album, releasing on September 14 ahead of her European and North American tours.
Japanese-British musician Rina Sawayama has dropped a third taste of her forthcoming album, titular track 'Hold The Girl'.
Following up from singles 'This Hell' and 'Catch Me In The Air', 'Hold The Girl' shows a softer side to Sawayama, however her iconic club beats and uptempo melodies still shine through as the song moves on. With a vulnerability throughout the lyrics in this track, it's evident the upcoming album from Rina will contain a diverse range of tracks, hopefully giving fans a chance to connect with the artist more, as felt in 'Hold The Girl'.
Speaking about the track, the singer explains "'Hold the Girl' was the first song I wrote for the record at the end of 2020 – I had gone to therapy and had a revelation, so I decided to write this song... that was the start of it. I was crying before going into the studio to write about it."
Sawayama's sophomore album Hold The Girl is set for release on September 14 via Dirty Hit. The album follows up the singer's critically acclaimed debut album Sawayama which quickly became one of the biggest albums of 2020, landing on over 50 album of the year lists from the world's biggest tastemakers.
Rina's highly anticipated album will drop just before the singer sets out on her Hold The Girl tour - returning to Dublin on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16th. The 31-year-old singer was originally scheduled for one date in Dublin's 3Olympia but due to popular demand, the musician now returns to Ireland for a third time this year to play dual dates. Making an appearance at Mother Dublin's Pride Party on Sunday, June 26, and returning to Ireland for an Electric Picnic set in Stradbally this September, the musician is clearly no stranger to an enthusiastic Irish crowd.
